SAVE THE DATE! Sat. Oct. 27 at noon in ST. CLOUD

Posted about 2 months ago by Megan Lifto

Hi there!

We'd love to have you join us on Saturday, October 26 at noon in St. Cloud to meet our MN HPNA members who live there (& surrounding towns/cities).  We'll be enjoying lunch and a presentation entitled, "Finding Your Voice: A Clinician’s Guide to Advocacy and Public Policy."  Restaurant to be determined- free lunch for all attendees!  We still have free t-shirts to give away as well!

After this presentation, you should have:

  • A better understanding of the lawmaking process at the federal and state levels
  • Knowledge of the Minnesota delegation congressional delegation and state representatives
  • Awareness of key state and federal legislation impacting the hospice and palliative care nursing community
  • The tools to tell your story to lawmakers and resources to take action on state and federal policy

Speaker bio:

Sarah Potter is the Manager of Advocacy and Health Policy at the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA). Sarah has more than 20 years of experience in government relations, health policy, and communications, with a focus on healthcare workforce issues, Medicare, Medicaid, children’s health, quality improvement, and the Affordable Care Act. She has developed and implemented state and federal advocacy campaigns and advocacy education programs for several national organizations, including the Pew Charitable Trusts, Independent Sector, the Premier Healthcare Alliance, and the Brookings Institution. Sarah began her career on Capitol Hill, as a page for Senator Jim Jeffords of Vermont and a legislative and communications aide for Rep. Karen McCarthy of Missouri and Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, and she has also worked on state legislative and congressional campaigns. Sarah holds dual degrees in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Missouri.

P.S.  This will be our last event as MN HPNA. HPNA National has decided to close its local HPNA chapters by the end of 2024 to form statewide communities. I'm sending another email with more information.

Hope to see you there!
