The Time is Right! Recognize Your Expertise in Hospice & Palliative Care through Certification

Posted almost 5 years ago by Amanda Forsyth

Registered Nurses, please join us on April 17, 2013 for Minnesota’s first Hospice & Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) sanctioned day of intense education designed to support a nurse’s preparation for the RN Generalist certification exam provided through the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHPN)*. The event is planned through the Minnesota Provisional Chapter of HPNA and organized by the Minnesota Network of Hospice & Palliative Care (MNHPC).

Never before has end of life care been spotlighted as it is in today's healthcare environment. Registered Nurses play a primary role in end of life care as the patient's principal clinical care provider and constant in bedside presence. They facilitate informed decision making, provide education, plan and direct patient care, and support advocacy across health care settings.

Nurses in hospice and palliative care take great pride in their expertise and have a strong commitment to quality care at the end of life. Many professional nurses have years of clinical experience, evidence-based practice, and education to draw upon. Certification is one way to validate the nurse's expertise. It is a process that evaluates the nurse's expertise in a specialty area and indicates a mastery of a defined body of knowledge. This knowledge of the specialty area is most often validated via testing. Nurses, whether you're choosing to test for certification in Hospice and Palliative Nursing or simply pursuing a more comprehensive knowledge base surrounding end of life care, the one day intense education focused on the RN Generalist is designed to increase your level of competence.

The education will take place at the HealthPartners main office building--just a short distance from the MNHPC conference at the DoubleTree Bloomington South hotel. For those who wish to stay an additional day at the DoubleTree hotel following the MNHPC conference, the reserved room-block rates will apply. Shuttle service back and forth from the Doubletree hotel to the HealthPartners building is available. Materials will be available for down load on the HPNA provisional chapter website prior to the event. Space is limited so register early!
