Important Message regarding MN HPNA chapter from Beth Werner, President

Posted about 2 years ago by Sheila Berrigan

Dear HPNA Chapter Members,

In 2011, a small group of dedicated, Minnesota based hospice & palliative nurses decided to further the mission of HPNA and the practice of palliative nursing. Thus in 2013, the inception of the MN Chapter of HPNA. Since that time, the chapter has grown in membership, provided opportunities for networking, peer support, education and leadership.

Now in 2015 we've reached a crossroad. As Chapter President, I tell you that we are struggling to find enough individuals interested in continuing our mission through leadership and overall chapter involvement. Without individuals to take over the reins, dissolution of our chapter is pending.

Below is a link to a survey that will provide our Chapter Executive Board with important information as we determine the ability of our chapter to move forward in 2016. All MN Chapter of HPNA members, please take time to complete this very brief 3 question survey by Monday, December 14th.

To those interested, we are currently seeking persons for our 4 Executive Board positions. Candidates interested must be a HPNA voting member and current chapter member. The positions and time commitment are as follows:

President (1 year):
Assumes the primary leadership, conducts the meetings and usually serves as the contact person for the HPNA National Office and District Leaders

Vice President/President Elect (1 year):
Assists the president with his or her duties. This person also conducts meetings if the president is absent.

Secretary (1 year):
Keeps written records of meetings and assists with correspondence.

Treasurer (2 years):
Records and tracks income and expenses of the local group (Secretary & Treasurer roles may be combined)

In addition, we have 3 chapter committees. Those eligible must be a HPNA member and chapter member. It is helpful to have >3 members involved on each committee.

  • Education and Programing
  • Nominating
  • Membership

Thank you for your commitment to the chapter,

Beth Werner MS, RN, CHPN, CHPCA
President, MN Chapter of HPNA
